500 Days of Summer - Movie Review

This film begins with the words- "This is not a love story". And indeed it wasn't. Although there was a hint of serious undertones in the light humor throughout the film, the levels of this sober mood never peaked high enough for it to become; a love story.

This was actually what made the movie so good. It wasnt a typical romance; it was real. Yes- there may have been a few singalongs and animation edits along the way but aside from that; the personalitites, actions and feelings of the chatecters were real- you could relate to them. And isnt that want everyone wants in a good film?

There are also echoes of similarity to another film that Zooey Deschanel stars in- Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy. Both subtly mock the actions of the human race and question whether we act on what we feel or what were told to feel. However this is done subtly using clever satire which gets through to us by the appearance of the friendly voice over who speaks at intervals in the film to offer helpful background knowledge and general tips on life.

PASTEL

Ready to embrace the pastel trend? Try a pastel nail colour to get a minimal modern take on the look. Or- if your feeling brave; throw in something androgynous to balance out the doll effect a pastel dress would otherwise create in your outfit.

Draw the line

I bought Rimmel's white kajal liner a week ago, and it had such a great affect! Ive always been cynical about using white because I assumed it wouldn't make much of a difference but now Ive tried it Ive realized that although its hard to spot, it brings lovely refreshed light to your eyes and will definitely be a predominant member of my make up bag this summer.

Haphazardly Layered

This is just a photo that I came across on Style.com, which I just had to post. Hanne Gaby Odiele in her haphazardly layered yet perfect cardigans...

Twisted Dolls

At Derek Lam there was a definite rebellious rag-doll persona being channelled in the models hair and make up. With the spotlight being on their eyes but with the twist of drawn on eyelashes and lashings of mascara to keep the look from looking to girly, and create an aura of non-uniformity.

The make up from this collection also reminded me of an old Harpers Bazaar cover with Alexa Chung.

Vermin

I cant make up my mind about RP/Encore's jewellery. The items are not just based on animal aspects but made out of bits of animal too. The two collections Vermin and Park might give you more than a little hint about which animals exactly Peppard uses in her work to create these honestly stunning pieces. For now Ive got my eye on her thin bone rings- staying safely away from anything made of real animals. But what do you think of animal jewellery, is it art or an abomination?

TOP STOPS

Chantal Adair- Top Stops AW11

Top stops is a part of the Russian culture magazine GARAGE. Its aim is to show real people and their styles in the form of a website but what makes it so good is that anyone can upload a photo (its kind of like an unexclusive Jack&Jill), so the winner of the competition will be chosen for their style and not for who they are, backing up the revolutionary way that fashion is moving more and ore towards then people today. The Contributing editor for the magazine is Tavi Gevinson who's unique influence is clearly seen in aspects of the magazine.
